      Characteristics of Social Media Detoxification among Management and Science University Students

            Abstract

            Social media detoxification is a method that involves self-restraint to limit the use of social media or social networking sites. This study aimed to observe the characteristics of social media detoxification among management and science university (MSU) students. An observational cross-sectional study was done to assess the characteristics of social media detoxification among Management and science University (MSU) students. A set of questionnaire was prepared for the study. Cochran’s sample size formula was used to calculate the sample size. Descriptive statistics was used for the analysis of qualitative data, while chi- square phi- kramer’s correlation and analysis was used to measure between social media addiction level and gender or voluntary participation of social media detoxification among Management and Science University students. Analyses was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics and data was considered significant if p < 0.05. Results: Majority of the participants were categorized as moderate addiction with 63% followed by mild addiction with 26%, severe addiction with 10% and normal use with 1%. Also about 44.8% of participants reported that they have previously undergone voluntary social media detoxification out of 145 participants. Results showed that majority of Management and Science university (MSU) students were moderately addicted to social media.
